To ensure a good experience—for all!

FAQ

  • Zooming is safe. The troubles you may have heard of were with more or less public events where the passcode was public. We will be using a private code

  • The Zoom App is free and all you need is the basic Free Zoom account. (In order to Host with unlimited time I have a paid account which serves all of us.)

  • See below for Zoom Tech if you don’t already have a Zoom account

Prepare for Class

  • It's a good idea to think about and prepare your movement area, and any class items, well ahead of the session.

    • You will need quiet space to move—and a place to position your device/camera.

    • Important! Chair: choose a solid chair. A dining room chair is the idea; with arms is ideal but not necessary. Do not use a folding chair or a chair that rolls.

    • Nice but not required--have some aromatherapy on hand for yourself to use during the self-massage/centering at the beginning of the session.

    • Also not required—any props you would like that make you happy. Talk with me about options to consider. The items you may want will depend on your body and what sessions you attend.

Courtesies

You do not have to attend every class but

  1. a curtesy text or vm if you are not coming to a specific class is requested.

  2. Alternately, if you know that you can only come occasionally let me know that when you enroll, and then give me a curtesy heads up well before the class you will be attending.

  3. Thanks!

    • Most people determine a set monthly amount and give that rather than counting classes—whatever works for you—more if you can, less if you can’t.

    • Everybody is welcome whether or not they can contribute anything

    • We are exploring digital membership payment systems for the future

    • Thank Lea Ann Maceyko! She has paid all the building and utility expenses at People Place—even through the suspension of everything because of the Pandemic. She cares and takes care of our community in this and so many other ways.

Zoom Tech: Getting On; Getting In; and—Good Times

  • If you have never Zoomed or Zoomed a movement class before know this: It’s Easy—once you know how. That’s one of the reasons we connect well ahead of first class—to make the Tech easy.

    • And Tech is wily: expect that you and/or others may have Tech issues. We will roll with the flow.

    • In class the instructor will guide not just the class but the Tech as we go!

  • Day of: since it takes a bit of time to get in/Join and set-up, plan to arrive 5-10 minutes ahead of class.

    • There is no way to join the Zoom class without the instructor letting you in.

  • Part of the new student enrollment process includes a phone discussion of your specifics. This helps not only your experience be the best it can be but also a smoother class experience for everyone.

    • Your device and your internet/WiFi connection all make a difference with livestreaming. We’ll talk in our phone call.

Your Zoom Account

  • A Zoom App is required. For the highest, most functional experience in class, download the App. . https://zoom.us/download

    • Choose “Zoom Client For Meetings” for computers, once downloaded—install the App.

    • Choose “Zoom Mobile App” option if using a mobile device.

  •  Set up a zoom account here https://bit.ly/39igzyY or if you are on your phone or tablet then make sure you have downloaded the zoom app after your account is set up. Choose the personal basic FREE account.

    •  Add your name (and photo if you want). Name is important because it is easier to recognize when you join the live-stream. This is one way to insure the privacy of our sessions—I will not admit anyone I cannot identify.

To JOIN a meeting/session:

It takes a bit of time to get in/Join and set-up. Remember to arrive 5-10 minutes ahead of class.

Two ways to Join 1) From your App click on JOIN then type in the Meeting ID you will get when you enroll; or 2) you can go in through an email link that takes you right to the Waiting Room, no typing in the Meeting ID. When you enroll we’ll get you the option(s) you want.

  • Once you have Joined there will be prompts along the way. Note: when if/ it asks— you will want to join with computer and/or internet audio.

  • You will enter what Zoom calls a waiting room. Basically, it is the period of time it takes for the instructor and Zoom to process you in. Be patient.

  • If needed, I help new students with the Tech

  • Depending on your device, make sure you are in expanded screen. This will show your icons/controls more easily as well as giving you the largest visual.

  • Set your sound - Please know how to mute and unmute yourself. This is an icon that looks like an microphone. Note: as Host, I can mute you also. Aditonally, please make sure the environment around you is quiet because every seemingly small sound comes through amazingly loud.

  • Turn your video on if it is not on – This is an icon that looks like an old fashioned movie camera.

  • Camera Position—Placement and Lighting

    • Light—Position your laptop/phone/camera in a place where there is light in front of you and less behind you as you face the camera. This way the camera will adjust to the brighter light and you will be visible. A Note about windows “There is a tendency for people to position themselves in front of a window, yet this is the worst position for you being on camera because you are pretty much only a silhouette. You are much better facing the window so you are lit and you can be seen.”

    • Set camera for a movement session - So that the teacher can provide movement cues you want as much of your whole body in camera view as possible. This means you are further rather than closer to the camera.

  • View - Locate how to change your view on your screen. It could be an icon that looks like grid; a word that says either Speaker or Gallery. Each device is different. View enables you to either see everyone, including the teacher, equally in our own “box” via Gallery view, Or just one person—the Speaker. In class I will direct you to the view needed depending on what we are doing.

Once You Have Set-up You Can Wander Away—returning by class start.

I look forward to SEEing you in Class—Michele “Mik” Mangione PhD, RYT500 Call or Text: 614-488-3041
